What ᨋ means
The n sound leads into r; the a is built in.
A Lontara vowel mark changes the built-in a. Lontara leaves final consonants unmarked, so Latin spellings can show detail it leaves implicit.
It is one letter, not the sequence ᨊ ᨑ.
When did Lontara writing begin?
Lontara writing is attested as early as the fourteenth century. South Sulawesi's earliest written records were genealogies of ruling families.
Lontara also served Bugis, Makasar, and Mandar. A 2015 Unicode proposal for Old Makassarese shows the related script without a dedicated nra letter.

Questions people ask
1Why does ᨋ show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
