What ᝅ means
The Buhid consonant nga, with the ng sound in sing.
On its own, ᝅ reads nga, with a built-in a. Add ᝒ for i/e or ᝓ for u/o; traditional spelling leaves a syllable’s final consonant unwritten.
A pre-Spanish Philippine writing tradition
Buhid is a pre-Spanish script used by Mangyan communities on Mindoro for poetry and personal messages. A 1904–1905 collection of bamboo writing preserves evidence of the wider tradition.
Unicode describes a possible route from South Indian scripts through Kawi, an older script from western Java, between the 10th and 14th centuries. Buhid is related to Tagalog (Baybayin) and Hanunoo, but direct descent from Tagalog is uncertain.

Questions people ask
1Why does ᝅ show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
