What ꩖ means
It writes six in Cham numbers. Cham number strings use native digits: ꩑꩖ is 16, and ꩖꩐ is 60. The value comes from the digits' positions, as in other decimal writing.
How did Cham writing develop?
Cham writing grew from Indic scripts in the Pallava tradition, a South Indian writing style that influenced scripts across Southeast Asia. Its earliest surviving records are stone and temple inscriptions. From the 15th century, handwritten Middle Cham texts take a more cursive form; from the 19th century, modern Cham texts and scholarly romanization, writing Cham with Latin letters, appear.
Cham communities use more than one writing tradition. Eastern Cham references include native digits alongside the familiar 0–9 digits; Western Cham materials use Ka-Kha and Jawi, an Arabic-based script. The wider Indic-derived script network also connects Cham historically with Khmer and Thai writing.
