What ꩈ means
It marks a y-like sound at an Eastern Cham syllable’s end. “Final” means after the vowel; ꨢ marks it at the start.
Cham writing took more than one path
The Đông Yên Châu inscription is an early Cham text in the Pallava script tradition, a South Indian writing system, dated to around 350 CE; the inscription itself is undated. Cham writing served political and religious inscriptions and manuscripts.
Pallava influence also reached Khmer and Thai scripts. Eastern and Western Cham developed distinct traditions; from the mid-19th century, Cambodian Cham Islamic manuscripts shifted toward Jawi, an Arabic-derived script.
