What does ꨋ do in Cham writing?
It is a Cham consonant letter used within syllables.
Cham is a Brahmi-derived script, descended from an ancient South Asian writing tradition. Its consonants carry an inherent vowel, so vowel signs and any final consonant determine the rest of a syllable.
The earliest known Cham inscription is catalogued as C.174; surviving Old Cham inscriptions span about 500–1500 CE. Early writing appears in inscriptions tied to religious and political life. Later Akhar Thrah manuscripts—books written in Cham—preserved ritual guidance, poetry, moral writing, and language study. The encoded tradition chiefly represents Eastern Cham; Western Cham has a related but distinct written tradition, alongside a separate Arabic-based Cham writing tradition.
In Cham text, ꨋ is a consonant; by itself, it reads as a sample of the script.
Without Cham font support, it may render as a box.
