What ㊏ means
In Japanese calendars, ㊏ means Saturday. It encloses 土, the Earth character in 土曜日 (“Saturday”), and is also called 丸土 (“circled 土”).
Japanese weekday names came through China. A diary by Japanese courtier Fujiwara no Michinaga records their continuous use from 998–1021. Before Meiji-era reforms, the sequence served calendar-based fortune reading; afterward, these names became everyday weekday labels. The circled form belongs to that older system.
Japanese calendar shorthand.
In a date grid, read it as Saturday, not a stand-alone Earth mark.
