What ͧ means
It follows its host letter, with no separate text position.
The superscript-letter set appears mainly in medieval Germanic manuscripts, with some use in certain languages into the 19th century.
Medieval abbreviations saved scribes time and writing material: a raised letter could stand for omitted letters above the line. A Middle English superscript u abbreviation appears in Piers Plowman, a poem written in an older form of English: þ, the letter thorn, followed by ͧ is read as “thou,” an older English form of “you”; the same passage reads inline “ou” as “you.”
Specialist and archival: it points to manuscript transcription or text-encoding work.
Read the whole word; ͧ alone cannot identify the omitted letters.

1Questions people ask
1Why does ͧ move when I change fonts?
It can. Each font places combining marks according to its own design. A character chart may show an isolated mark over a dotted circle; that circle is only a display placeholder.
