What 𐋧 means
It is the sign for the value seven.
Examples appear in Egyptian documents from the eighth century CE onward; the notation was established in administrative and commercial writing by the tenth century. Its rounded forms grew from Coptic number writing in a quick, Greek-influenced cursive hand. Each sign contributes its own value, so a number is built by adding signs instead of reading place-value digits.
In medieval Egypt, Coptic Christians developed the signs; Egyptian Muslims and Jews used them too, often in Arabic and Judaeo-Arabic records (Arabic written in Hebrew letters). “Epact” connects the set to calendar calculations tracking the Moon against the solar year; accounts were another practical use.
