What ⳑ means
In Unicode hex input, enter 2CD1.
The exact keystrokes depend on your device and editor. A Coptic keyboard layout can also enter it if that layout includes Old Coptic characters.
Why did Old Coptic add extra letters?
They filled sounds that Greek letters could not write.
Old Coptic writers used the Greek alphabet to write Egyptian, adding signs for consonants Greek lacked. Several approaches appeared in early texts, before Coptic spelling became more standardized; ⳑ belongs to that extra-letter layer.
Historical and specialist; outside Coptic text, the isolated letter tells you its sound, not the sender's reason for using it.
If it arrives alone, ask for context; its historical letter value does not tell you why it was sent.

Questions people ask
1Why does ⳑ show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
