What 𑠳 means
It adds the e vowel to a Dogra consonant.
In 𑠊𑠳, the k consonant takes e instead of its built-in a. By itself, 𑠳 has no consonant to change; the independent letter 𑠆 writes an e syllable alone.
How has Dogra been written over time?
Dogra is related to the older Takri script.
Takri descends from Sharada, and Dogra is closely related to Takri. A Takri inscription at Salhi dated 1160 CE is reported as written Dogri; Dogra was used for Dogri by the 17th century.
New Dogra was standardized under Ranbir Singh in the 1860s, influenced by Devanagari and Gurmukhi. Dogri is usually written in Devanagari; as of 2026, New Dogra is returning on signs in Jammu. Old and New Dogra fonts can draw vowel signs differently.

1Why does 𑠳 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
