What 𛱼 means
It joins a short word part to a nearby Duployan sign.
A prefix starts a word; a suffix ends it. This mark can stand for either, depending on the shorthand system.
Duployé simplified Aimé Paris’s shorthand method to make French easier to record. An early manual appeared in 1860; his developed system followed in 1867. Later adaptations served Romanian, Chinook Jargon and several Indigenous languages in interior British Columbia.
Why do Duployan charts show extra dots?
They guide the diagram; they are not written with the affix.
The dots show the affix’s position and orientation relative to its base sign—the letter or mark it attaches to.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𛱼 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
