What 𛱲 means
Only in Pernin Reporters’ shorthand.
Émile Duployé published his French shorthand in 1860 so writers could keep pace with speech. Helen M. Pernin’s Practical Reporter, published in 1882, documents this English reporter’s sign for contra-. A separate branch adapted by missionary Jean-Marie Le Jeune in 1890 wrote Chinook Jargon and several Salishan languages in British Columbia; the Kamloops Wawa newsletter used that script from 1891–1923 for news and religious teaching.
As an attached prefix, it crosses or touches a word’s first letter; it belongs to the shorthand outline, not punctuation.
Specialist shorthand, specific to one system.
Read “contra-” only in Pernin Reporters’ shorthand.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𛱲 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
