What 𛰧 means
In Sloan shorthand, it stands for “m m.”
M S names the form, not its pronunciation. Duployan characters join into words.
How did Duployan shorthand evolve?
It grew from French shorthand into systems adapted for other languages.
Émile Duployé and his brother published an early version in 1860; Sténographie Duployé followed in 1867. He simplified the earlier French shorthand method associated with Aimé Paris to record speech faster.
Priest Jean-Marie Le Jeune adapted Duployan as Chinuk pipa for Chinook Jargon, a Pacific Northwest trade language, and other Indigenous languages in British Columbia. The Kamloops Wawa newsletter (1891 to 1923) records that use; the script also carried religious texts and diaries.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𛰧 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
