What 𛰡 means
In Romanian Duployan shorthand, 𛰡 represents mijloc, the word for “middle” or “center.” Duployan is a compact writing system for recording speech, and this sign writes a whole word rather than the sound of M.
Duployan shorthand began as a French method
In 1860, the Duployé brothers published a simpler French shorthand based on a method Émile had learned from a version of Conen de Prépéan’s system, revised by shorthand teacher Aimé Paris. They promoted faster writing and broader literacy, including teaching children to read by sounding out words. Later language-specific forms included Romanian stenography and Jean-Marie Le Jeune’s adaptation for Chinook Jargon and Salish languages in British Columbia.
Use 𛰡 for “middle” only with readers who know Romanian Duployan shorthand.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𛰡 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
