What ᎕ means
It sustains the phrase’s final sound, then lifts the pitch. Kenat (also Qinat) is one of eight qirts—nonalphabetic vocal cues in Zaima, the Ethiopian Orthodox Church’s chant-notation system.
Qirtsat sequences combine these cues and are voiced in order, not as a chord.
Another account credits two church cantors with codifying it after the 1529–1541 invasions.
A liturgical cue in Ethiopian Orthodox chant notation.
Its rise is a chant instruction, not a free-standing tone or mood.

Questions people ask
1Why does ᎕ show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
