What ᄒ means
A width-compatible form of Korean ㅎ. It represents the same consonant, not a separate meaning. Unicode conversion can display it as ㅎ or as ᄒ, the form used to build Korean syllables.
The halfwidth Hangul set's documented lineage points to the 1987 Annex 4 7-bit Hangul Jamo layout of KS C 5601 / KS X 1001. It supported round-trip conversion between older one-cell and two-cell computer text.
Technical and archival; in casual Korean text, ᄒ can look like an encoding artifact rather than an expressive choice.
For ordinary Korean writing, use ㅎ; ᄒ may look like a conversion artifact.

Questions people ask
1Why does ᄒ show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
