What 밭 means
Dry crop field; after a noun, ground full of it. It contrasts with 논, an irrigated rice paddy; 돌밭 is stony ground.
The word is first recorded in 1447 in the Seokbo sangjeol, a Korean Buddhist text. By the 15th century, farming was moving from temporary plots and resting fields to regularly worked land.
A 2007 account of Yukjin, a Korean dialect, also records 밭 for plant-rich wild land.
A neutral Korean noun; alone, it needs Korean context.
Alone, it is not a universal field sign.
