Hangul syllable Bbug

뿍 is a Korean syllable used as a sound-word. A 2026 feature puts one use in bathroom humor, so context matters.

What 뿍 means

It can act as sound lettering, not a fixed word. Hangul combines initial ㅃ, vowel ㅜ and final ㄱ in one block. The 1443 Sejong Shilok, a royal chronicle, records Hunminjeongeum, the Korean alphabet; an explanatory book followed in 1446 to make Korean easier to write than Classical Chinese. Earlier systems called Idu, hyangchal and gugyeol adapted Chinese characters for Korean; evidence for Idu in the Silla kingdom reaches the mid-sixth century. Fonts change its shape, not its reading.

Is 뿍 a fart sound?

It can, when the Korean context makes the joke clear. A 2026 Kyunghyang feature describes 뿍 as a quick fart pop and contrasts it with 뽕 and 뿡. Alone, it is ambiguous.

Questions people ask

1

Why does 뿍 show as a box on some devices?

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
