Hangul syllable Bbwaes

5004/11172

뾋 is a Hangul syllable block in the Korean writing system; its sound belongs inside a word, whose surrounding syllables supply the meaning. A Korean IME builds it from three component letters, and Unicode also represents it as a decomposed sequence of those letters.

What 뾋 means

뾋 represents a Korean syllable; its surrounding word supplies the meaning. The block combines ㅃ as its initial consonant, ㅙ as its vowel, and ㅅ as its final consonant. The Unicode label “Bbwaes” names the syllable’s sound structure; it is not an English translation.

Hangul was designed to represent the Korean speech used in the Joseon kingdom. The name and account of the script appear in the Sejong Sillok, the kingdom’s royal chronicle, in 1443; the explanatory Hunminjeongeum book appeared in 1446.

Modern Korean spelling follows a proposal from 1933, partly revised in 1988. Unicode includes this as one precomposed Hangul block and defines its canonical jamo decomposition, ᄈ ᅫ ᆺ. Those are two text representations of the same syllable, not lookalikes.

How do I type 뾋 on a Korean keyboard?

Use a two-set Korean keyboard and enter the components in order. On the South Korean two-set layout, press ShiftQ for ㅃ, then H and O for ㅗ ㅐ ㅙ, then T for ㅅ. The Korean input method editor (IME) joins the jamo into 뾋.

Typing “Bbwaes” on an English keyboard does not enter the character: a Korean IME expects component keystrokes. Jamo are Hangul’s component letters, which the IME combines as you type.

Why does 뾋 appear as separate parts or a box?

A missing box or separate jamo points to font or shaping support. If a font lacks this syllable, an app may show a missing-character box; if the app does not shape Hangul, the components may remain separate.

The sequence ᄈ ᅫ ᆺ is the canonical decomposition of 뾋. Unicode normalization can recombine it into the precomposed block, while a Korean IME assembles the components as you type.

In Korean spelling, 뾋 is a neutral syllable component; by itself, it does not set a message’s tone.

1

Why does 뾋 show as a box on some devices?

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
