What 뼼 means
Read it as one Korean syllable inside a word.
A Hangul syllable can be one part of a longer Korean word, so 뼼 alone does not give enough information to translate or decode a message. If someone sends it by itself, ask for the word or sentence around it.
Why does Hangul use syllable blocks?
Each block groups a starting consonant, a vowel and sometimes an ending consonant.
King Sejong's court introduced the writing system as Hunminjeongeum (“correct sounds for teaching the people”) in 1443. It gave Korean speech a system of letters at a time when Korean writing also used Hanja, Chinese characters adapted for Korean. The explanatory book Hunminjeongeum Haeryebon was published in 1446.
Earlier names included jeongeum, eonmun and banjeol. After 1894, gukmun became common. Hangeul is the common name in South Korea and Chosŏn'gŭl is preferred in North Korea as of 2026; Jeongum is another politically neutral name for the script.
Why does 뼼 look different in fonts?
Fonts can draw the same Hangul block with different proportions. Unicode identifies the character but does not prescribe one outline; stroke weight, spacing and component placement can vary. A font without this glyph may show a blank or a missing-character box.
Unicode's separated form is ᄈ ᅨ ᆿ: the starting consonant, vowel and final consonant. A Korean input method can assemble those Hangul parts into the syllable.
