hangul syllable bil

Hangul syllable 빌

4685/11172

빌 is one Korean syllable, not enough by itself to identify a word. 빌다 can mean “pray,” “wish,” or “beg”; 빌리다 means “borrow” or “rent.” If someone sends just 빌, the surrounding Korean is missing.

What 빌 means

Alone, 빌 has no fixed meaning. Hangul groups letters into one written block for each Korean syllable.

King Sejong devised Hangul so people who could not read Chinese characters could write Korean. The first record of the script dates to 1443; the 1446 guide 훈민정음 explains how its letters work. By 1447, Hangul appeared in translations, practical books, and literature. A 1894 reform made Korean the basis of official documents.
