What 채 means
Context supplies its job. 입은 채로 means “while still wearing it.” In 집 한 채, 한 채 counts one house. Elsewhere, 채 means “barely” or names a stick or racket.
Hangul, the Korean writing system, was created in 1443; an explanatory guide appeared in 1446. It was used alongside Chinese-character writing for Korean translation and teaching before becoming the official national script in 1894. Unicode can also store 채 as two jamo, or Hangul letters, ᄎ and ᅢ; some text tools count them separately.
Questions people ask
1Why does 채 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
