What 추 means

The whole word decides. Alone, 추 can name a weight used for weighing. In 추수 (“harvest”), it carries “autumn”; in 추적 (“tracking”), “pursue.”

Where does Hangul come from?

Hangul was created as Hunminjeongeum in 1443. A book from 1446 explained its principles and aim of making Korean writing more accessible. It first served everyday Korean writing alongside systems using Hanja (Chinese characters used to write Korean), such as Idu, Gugyeol, and Hyangchal, before becoming the main script for Korean.

Questions people ask

1

Why does 추 show as a box on some devices?

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
