What 닮 means
It signals resemblance inside Korean words. The verb 닮다 describes people or things that share looks or qualities. By itself, 닮 is a syllable, not a full word that identifies who resembles whom.
Hangul was made to write Korean in Joseon. A court record from 1443 says King Sejong created the letters under the name Hunminjeongeum; a 1446 explanatory book with that title explains their design and purpose.
The block combines consonant ㄷ, vowel ㅏ, and final cluster ㄻ. Korean dictionaries give 닮다 roughly as “dam-tta” and 닮아 as “dal-ma”: the ending changes how the cluster sounds.

Questions people ask
1Why does 닮 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
