What 딾 means
Use a Korean input method that composes Hangul syllables.
Enter ㄸ ㅏ ㄹ ㅍ; the input method should combine ㄹ ㅍ as the final cluster ㄿ. The Latin name component ddalp is part of the Unicode name, not a keyboard shortcut.
Does 딾 mean anything by itself?
It is a Hangul syllable, not an established standalone word.
Hangul was created for writing Korean, with consonant and vowel letters arranged into square syllable blocks. A December 1443 record describes the creation of 28 letters; a 1446 completion record is associated with Hunminjeongeum, the text introducing the script. Early spelling allowed consonant letters used at syllable beginnings to appear at the end too; later convention narrowed final spellings to eight consonants. The 1933 spelling standard favored keeping related word forms visibly connected even when pronunciation changes.
Why does 딾 show as a box?
Boxes mean missing font support; separated Jamo may be unshaped or decomposed.
Unicode represents 딾 as one precomposed block and as a canonically equivalent sequence of conjoining Jamo—the individual Hangul letters arranged into a syllable. A font or app can fail to join decomposed Jamo properly, while a box indicates the font lacks a glyph. Unicode NFC normalization, a text-normalization form, can recombine the decomposed sequence into the precomposed block.

1Why does 딾 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
