hangul syllable ddum

Hangul Syllable Ddum

2733/11172

뚬 is one syllable block in Hangul, the writing system used for Korean. On its own, it does not identify a word or tell you what a sender means; the surrounding text or situation supplies that. On a standard Dubeolsik keyboard, ShiftE, N, A compose it as one block.

What 뚬 means

On its own, 뚬 does not identify a word or intent.

In Korean, it can be a syllable inside a word, a recorded dialect spelling, or a move in a word-chain game. The surrounding word or situation tells you how to read it.

If someone sends only 뚬, ask what word or context it belongs to; the syllable alone cannot reveal their intent.

Where does Hangul come from?

Hangul was designed as a writing system for Korean speech. The system’s first official description, Hunminjeongeum, is dated 1443. An explanatory book published in 1446 shows syllables built from an initial consonant, a middle vowel and an optional final consonant.

In 15th-century Korean books, Hangul appeared alongside Hanja, Chinese characters also used to write Korean. Mixed Hangul-Hanja writing remained common in South Korean professional publications through the 1980s; Hangul-only writing spread through the 1990s.

How do I type 뚬?

On a standard Korean Dubeolsik keyboard, press ShiftE, N, then A. The Korean input method turns those keys into ㄸ, ㅜ and ㅁ, then joins them as 뚬.

If a field shows ㄸㅜㅁ separately, it is displaying the three Hangul letters, called jamo, in their input order. That sequence and the precomposed block can look different across fonts or apps, even though both represent the same syllable.

This is a Korean text syllable; alone, it does not set a dependable tone.

A bare 뚬 leaves the recipient without enough context to infer your intent.

Can I use 뚬 in Korean word-chain games?

Yes. A community-maintained Korean word-chain list revised 2026-08-17 includes 뚬 as a playable root syllable; that game rule does not give it a general word meaning.
