What 똰 means
Use a Korean IME and enter its parts in order.
An IME is input software that turns keystrokes into Hangul. On the standard two-set keyboard, Shift+E, H, K, S produce ㄸ, combine ㅗ then ㅏ into ㅘ, and add final ㄴ.
Other Korean keyboard layouts assign different keys but can enter the same Hangul letter sequence: ㄸ ㅘ ㄴ.
What does 똰 mean?
It spells one Korean syllable; its setting supplies the meaning.
Its parts are an initial tense t, a vowel that glides from o toward a, and final n. In spelling order, they are ᄄ ᅪ ᆫ.
The block gives a spoken syllable; the Korean word, name, or transcription around it tells you what that sound represents.
Where has 똰 appeared historically?
It belongs to a writing system designed for Korean speech.
The Sejong annals, a royal chronicle, first mention Hunminjeongeum, the new Korean writing system, in 1443; a book explaining it appeared in 1446. Hangul offered Korean a way to write its sounds more directly when formal writing relied heavily on Chinese characters, which many ordinary readers found difficult.
Hangul spread into literature and Buddhist translations. By 1894 it was a basis for official documents, even as mixed Chinese-Korean writing continued.
A 2016 study of Kim Gyeong-tak's 1939 system for writing Mandarin sounds in Hangul lists 똰 in a row labeled uan, with Chinese character 斷 as an example. uan is the chart's Latin-letter label, not the Korean reading of 똰.
