What 들 means
It means “field,” marks plurality, or means “wild.” After a noun, -들 marks plural; after -고 (“and”) or -다 (plain statement), it can mark a plural subject. In a separate noun use, it means “and the like”; in a compound, “wild.”
Hangul was designed for Korean speech; its creation was recorded in 1443 and it was publicly explained in 1446. 들 combines the initial consonant ㄷ, vowel ㅡ, and final consonant ㄹ. An older form of the Korean word for “field” is attested in 1447.
