hangul syllable dwael

Hangul Syllable Dwael

If you mean the Korean verb form used in phrases such as 될 수밖에, write 될, not 됄. 됄 is a Hangul syllable block made from initial ㄷ, vowel ㅙ, and final ㄹ; alone, it has no complete word meaning. A Korean 2-set keyboard makes it with e-h-o-f.

What 됄 means

Use 될 when you mean a form of 되다.

되다 is a Korean verb meaning “become” or “be.” In a phrase such as 될 수밖에 (“have no choice but to”), the vowel is ㅚ, not ㅙ. Keep 됄 only in an exact quotation, name, or intentionally literal string.

What is 됄 made of?

It is a Korean syllable written as one block.

Hangul writes Korean syllables in blocks. This one combines initial ㄷ, vowel ㅙ, and final ㄹ. These are the standalone compatibility-jamo forms used to show its parts; a decomposed Unicode sequence uses the corresponding conjoining jamo. Read the block as part of its Korean word or sentence, because the syllable alone has no complete word meaning.

Hangul was created in 1443 for Korean, which differs from Chinese; its explanatory book, Hunminjeongeum (“Proper Sounds for the Instruction of the People”), appeared in 1446. Earlier methods adapted Chinese characters to write Korean, but Idu, Gugyeol, and Hyangchal were difficult for broad literacy. Hangul later carried Buddhist and Confucian texts, practical knowledge, laws, and personal writing. It became the national writing system in 1894, lost official status under Japanese rule after 1910, and received new spelling policies after liberation in 1945. A Mongolian Phags-pa influence is proposed, not settled, and is not an established ancestor of this syllable.

How can I type 됄 on a Korean keyboard?

Use Korean 2-set input and press e-h-o-f.

On the Dubeolsik layout, e gives ㄷ, h and o build ㅙ from ㅗ + ㅐ, and f gives final ㄹ. The Korean input method combines them into one syllable block.

A decomposed sequence of conjoining jamo represents the same syllable, though a font or text path may show its parts separately. Compatibility jamo are different characters and do not join into a block.

In ordinary Korean prose, 됄 is a spelling error when the writer means 될; by itself, it is just a syllable block.

For a form of 되다, write 될.

Why can 됄 appear as separate jamo?

It can. A decomposed sequence of conjoining jamo represents the same syllable, though a font or text path may show its parts separately. Compatibility jamo are different characters and do not join into a block.
