What 댨 means
댨 is one Hangul syllable block: ㄷ is its initial consonant, ㅑ the vowel, and ㄽ the final consonant cluster. If it arrives alone, the surrounding Korean word or message is what gives that syllable a role.
Before Hangul, Korean was written with Chinese characters. King Sejong devised Hangul in 1443 as an easier-to-learn way to write Korean; in 1446, the book Hunminjeongeum explained the script's purpose and how its letters combine. During Hangul's early years, Buddhist scriptures were printed in the new script.

1Why does 댨 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
