What 엒 means
엒 is a Hangul syllable, not the English word “egg.” Unicode spells its Korean sound in Latin letters as “EGG.”
Hangul combines letters called jamo into syllable blocks: ᄋ starts this one, ᅦ is its vowel, and ᆩ its final. Unicode’s decomposed form lists the same parts separately; fonts may place them differently.
Hangul was devised in 1443 and explained in the 1446 Hunminjeongeum, a guide to its letters and sounds. The name “Hangul” became common in the early 20th century.
