What 깞 means
It is a valid syllable, but 값 is the ordinary spelling.
A 2020 Korean linguistics paper says earlier analyses linked 깞 to pronunciations of 값 under different sound conditions. It argues these are results of sound rules, not separate forms of the word. Here, phonetic notation means a written record of a sound, not a replacement spelling.
What does 깞 mean by itself?
Read 깞 as a sound note, not a standalone word.
Hangul was designed in Joseon to write Korean speech. Hunminjeongeum, the early name for the system, first appears in a record dated 1443; an explanatory book was published in 1446. Each written syllable combines an initial consonant and a vowel, with an optional final; 깞 follows that same design.
A 2009 study proposed that the Phags-pa script, a writing system from the Mongol Yuan period, influenced parts of Hunminjeongeum’s design. That remains a scholarly proposal.
Why does 깞 render differently?
Its font may be missing or draw the block differently.
Fonts vary in Hangul coverage and in the spacing and proportions used for syllable blocks. If the selected font cannot draw 깞, the system may substitute another font or show a blank box; that changes the display, not the character.
In this context, 깞 reads as linguistic notation, not ordinary conversation.
For ordinary Korean spelling, use 값; 깞 may be mistaken for a typo.

The Korean IME may have committed the block before the final pair was complete. Keep Korean input active so ㅂ and ㅅ stay together as the syllable’s ending.
