What 껭 means
A lone 껭 does not identify the Korean word around it. It combines ㄲ (a tense k), ㅔ (e as in “bed”) and final ㅇ (the ng sound in “sing”).
Hangul let Koreans write their language directly, unlike Idu, Gugyeol and Hyangchal, which adapted Chinese characters to Korean. It appears in records by 1443; its guide Hunminjeongeum was published in 1446. Its use spread through books and letters. It became the official national writing system in 1894, then lost that status under Japanese rule in 1910; these are Hangul’s dates, not 껭’s origin.

껭\AEEDWhy is 껭 a box on my screen?
fsymbols draws rare signs with its own fonts, so they show here even where your device has none. An app or website without such a font shows an empty box (□) or a question mark instead. Turn our fonts off to see each sign as your device draws it by itself: a box here means a box in your chats and documents too.
Codes and encoding1 code points
