What 꿆 means
It spells one Korean syllable; the surrounding word gives the meaning.
The block combines ㄲ as its opening consonant, ㅜ as its vowel, and ㄿ as a two-consonant ending.
Before Hangul, Korean was written with Chinese characters; Idu and Gugyeol were two difficult systems for using them to write Korean. King Sejong created Hangul in 1443 as an easier way to write Korean. The 1446 book Hunminjeongeum explained its design. Hangul later spread through everyday records, practical books, and literature. It became Joseon’s official script in 1894, then lost that status when Japan colonized Korea in 1910; scholars continued researching and teaching it despite suppression.
