What 꿰 means
By itself, 꿰 is a syllable, not a complete word. Korean words beginning with it can mean very different things: 꿰다 can mean to thread something through, pierce it, or get dressed quickly; 꿰매다 means to sew; 꿰뚫다 can mean to pierce or see through. The rest of the word supplies the meaning.
How is 꿰 built?
It joins two Hangul parts into one block. Its written parts are ᄁ, the starting consonant, and ᅰ, the vowel. Hangul was created in 1443 to write Korean; a guide published in 1446 explains how its letters form syllable blocks. Its preface says Korean speech differed from Chinese, making Chinese-character writing a poor fit. Those dates belong to Hangul’s history, not a separate origin date for 꿰.

Questions people ask
1Why does 꿰 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
