Hangul syllable 뀈

1033/11172

뀈 is a Korean Hangul syllable, not a word by itself: it contributes sound inside a Korean word. Its three jamo (Hangul's consonant and vowel letters), ㄲ, ㅞ, and ㅋ, combine in a Korean keyboard's input method to form the block. Hangul was designed to make Korean easier to write.

What 뀈 means

It is one Korean syllable block, not a word by itself.

Inside a Korean word, the neighboring syllables help determine how to read it and what the whole word means. Sent alone, it is a fragment rather than a complete message; ask for the Korean word or sentence around it.

Hangul was built to fit Korean speech

Hangul was created to make writing Korean easier for more people. The first record of Hunminjeongeum, the new script, dates to 1443; a book explaining it appeared in 1446.

Earlier Korean writing used Chinese characters, including Idu, a method that adapted them to write Korean. Hangul instead arranges consonant and vowel jamo—alphabetic letters—into syllable blocks. Their square layout resembles Chinese characters, but Hangul's letters are not directly derived from them.

South Korea generally calls the script Hangul; North Korea commonly calls it Chosŏn'gŭl.

How do I type 뀈?

Enter ㄲ, then ㅞ, then ㅋ in order.

Use a Korean IME, a keyboard input method that assembles Hangul letters into syllables. If the letters stay separate, the field may be in a mode that does not compose them. That is an input-state difference, not a different reading.

Neutral as a Korean syllable; in another language's chat, it can look like an unexplained fragment.

If someone sends only 뀈, ask for the Korean word or sentence; one syllable gives no complete message.

Questions people ask

2

Why did my keyboard make separate jamo?

Usually, the input method has exposed the letters before composing them into one block. The jamo still represent 뀈's parts, but they are not yet the single precomposed syllable.

Can a different font change what 뀈 is?

No. A font can alter the shape, spacing, and proportions of the component letters; the encoded syllable and its parts stay the same.
