What 끩 means

끩 is a Hangul syllable block built from three parts.

Korean jamo—the consonant and vowel letters—fit into a syllable block: 끩 has initial consonant ㄲ, vowel ㅢ, and final consonant cluster ㄺ. The word around it supplies its meaning; alone, treat it as an isolated character or an input/font test.

Hangul was originally called Hunminjeongeum, also the name of the explanatory book Hunminjeongeum Haeryebon. It was designed under King Sejong of Korea’s Joseon dynasty to make Korean writing systematic and clarify Chinese-character pronunciation. The earliest surviving record is in the royal annals kept for Sejong, dated to lunar December 1443; the book was completed in 1446. Korean texts also used Hangul with Hanja (Chinese characters used in Korean). North Korea stopped using Hanja in 1949. Mixed Hangul-Hanja remained conventional in South Korean publications through the 1980s; Hangul-only writing reappeared in newspapers in 1988 and spread through the 1990s. A proposed influence from Phags-pa, a Mongol script based on Tibetan, remains contested.

How do I type 끩 on a Korean keyboard?

On Dubeolsik, type Rmlfr.

In Dubeolsik, R produces ㄲ, m then l produces ㅢ, and f then r produces final ㄺ. The Korean input method assembles those jamo into 끩; another layout uses different keys.

Technical and linguistic; a lone 끩 reads as an isolated Hangul character.

Don’t assume a lone 끩 is a reaction; ask what the sender meant.

Does 끩 mean anything when someone sends it alone?

No. As of 2026, 끩 has no established standalone chat or slang meaning; treat it as an isolated character or an input/font test.

Why does 끩 appear as separate jamo?

It can be encoded as three conjoining jamo, 끩, rather than the single precomposed block 끩. Both represent the same syllable, but one stores three characters and the other stores one.
