Hangul syllable 꾵

950/11172

꾵 is a Korean Hangul syllable, not an emoji or a word with a fixed meaning on its own. Its parts are ㄲ ㅛ ㅌ, so the Korean word around it supplies the meaning. If it arrives alone, read it as a fragment of Korean spelling and ask for the surrounding word.

What 꾵 means

It is a Korean syllable, not a standalone definition.

Hangul is the Korean writing system. This block combines three Hangul letters: ㄲ, the doubled initial consonant; ㅛ, the vowel; and ㅌ, the final consonant. The block gives you a spelling unit, while the surrounding word supplies its meaning.

How did Hangul take shape?

Hangul was designed to write Korean speech.

A court record from 1443 describes 28 letters. Hunminjeongeum, a guide explaining the new script, was completed in 1446. Early court translations used Hangul in religious, practical, and teaching texts. Chinese characters, called Hanja in Korean, initially carried institutional weight. Hanja is a separate writing tradition used for Korean, not the ancestor of Hangul’s blocks. Hangul’s letters combine into square blocks that represent syllables.

How do I type 꾵?

Use a Korean IME and enter ㄲ, ㅛ, then ㅌ.

An IME (input method editor) turns typed keys into Hangul letters and joins them into a block. On the standard Dubeolsik two-set QWERTY layout, the keys are ShiftR, Y, X; other layouts differ.

Text can also store the same spelling as separate letters. Unicode’s NFC form normally composes modern Hangul sequences into one precomposed block; NFD deliberately leaves the letters separate.

Technical and linguistic; it functions as one Korean syllable in a word, not a freestanding reaction.

Alone, 꾵 gives you a syllable, not enough context to identify a word; ask for the surrounding Korean word.

Questions people ask

2

Is 꾵 an emoji?

No. 꾵 is part of Korean writing; by itself, this syllable does not give a standard pictorial reaction.

Why did 꾵 turn into separate Korean letters?

It can. Unicode text may represent the same spelling as separate Hangul letters: NFC normally joins modern sequences into one precomposed block, while NFD keeps the letters apart.
