What 궥 means
Enable Korean input; type r n p r on Dubeolsik.
The Korean input method combines an initial consonant, vowel, and final consonant into one block. Dubeolsik is the standard two-set keyboard layout: r enters ㄱ, and n then p enters ㅞ. Without Korean input enabled, those keys produce Latin letters.
Does 궥 have a meaning?
By itself, 궥 has no fixed translation.
It is a complete Hangul syllable block, formed from an initial consonant, a vowel, and a final consonant. That structure tells you how to read the syllable, but the surrounding Korean word supplies its meaning.
Korean historical records date Hangul’s invention to December 1443 and the completion of Hunminjeongeum, an explanatory book about the script, to 1446. Hangul was designed to fit Korean sounds and make writing easier to learn.
How did Hangul's use change?
It tracks a change in writing systems, not in 궥 itself.
Before and alongside Hangul, Korean writing also used Hanja—the Chinese-character script. That is a connection in Korean writing history, not a claim that Hanja visually developed into 궥. An Academy of Korean Studies history records mixed Hangul–Hanja writing in 1447; the balance varied by kind of text.
North Korea abolished Hanja in 1949. In South Korea, newspapers and official publications kept mixed writing into the 1980s, and Hangul-only writing became the norm through the 1990s.

Questions people ask
1Why does 궥 look different in different fonts?
It can. Fonts vary the shapes, proportions, and placement of Hangul letters inside a syllable block; that changes its appearance, not which character it is.
