What 귰 means

It writes one Korean syllable; context gives its word meaning.

Without Hangul block shaping, apps may display its component letters separately.

How did Hangul begin?

Hangul began as a Korean writing system in 1443. Idu, Gugyeol, and Hyangchal adapted Chinese characters to write Korean; Hangul was designed to be easier to learn. The 1446 book Hunminjeongeum explained its purpose. Hangul entered daily life and became official in 1894. After Japan annexed Korea in 1910, Hangul lost that status and faced suppression; scholars continued studying and using it.
