What 햄 means
Alone, 햄 names the food ham.
In 부대찌개 (budae-jjigae), a Korean stew, 햄 can appear with sausage and vegetables. In 햄버거 (“hamburger”) and 햄스터 (“hamster”), it is just the opening syllable.
Hangul was created in 1443 to write Korean more directly than Chinese-character writing; its guide Hunminjeongeum (훈민정음) was published in 1446. A syllable block combines an initial consonant, a vowel and sometimes a final consonant: 햄 joins ㅎ, ㅐ and ㅁ.

1Why does 햄 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
