What 홷 means
Enter its parts with the Korean 2-set input method.
On a standard Korean 2-set QWERTY keyboard, type ghoe: G gives ㅎ, H gives ㅗ, O combines with it to make ㅙ, and E gives ㄷ. The input method assembles one Hangul block.
Unicode can encode the same syllable as the precomposed block 홷 or as the conjoining jamo 홷. NFC composes the block; NFD exposes its components. A font with Hangul shaping support may still display the decomposed sequence as one block.
What does 홷 mean?
It is one Hangul syllable block; HWAED is not an English definition.
The block contains an initial consonant, a vowel and a final consonant. These components are Hangul letters called jamo. Unicode builds the label HWAED from their short names; it identifies the character rather than translating it.
King Sejong introduced Hangul in 1443 under the name Hunminjeongeum. Earlier, systems such as Idu, Gugyeol and Hyangchal adapted Chinese characters to write Korean, a difficult route for ordinary readers. The 1446 book Hunminjeongeum Haeryebon explained the new letters, their design and use.
Technical Hangul text; HWAED is a label assembled from component-letter names.
HWAED identifies the components; it is not an English translation.

Questions people ask
2why does 홷 split into jamo
Usually, this is normalization, not corruption. NFD represents the syllable as 홷; NFC can recombine those letters as 홷. A font without Hangul shaping support may show the parts separately.
why is 홷 a box
That is a missing-glyph fallback: the selected font or app does not provide a usable Hangul syllable glyph. Try a font with Hangul coverage.
