What 젟 means
Read 젟 as one Korean syllable within a longer word. A lone block does not show which full word it belongs to, so ask for the surrounding text before interpreting it.
It combines the jamo ㅈ and ㅔ with batchim ㄳ: jamo are Hangul letters, and batchim is the final consonant or consonant cluster in a syllable.
Hangul was devised under King Sejong so Korean could be written in a systematic alphabet. Its creation is recorded in 1443; an explanatory book, Hunminjeongeum Haerye, appeared in 1446 and describes Korean sounds and how an opening consonant, vowel, and ending consonant form a syllable block. Those dates concern Hangul generally, not the first use of 젟.

Questions people ask
1Why does 젟 appear as separate jamo?
A font or app with incomplete Hangul shaping may show the parts separately: ᄌ, ᅦ, and ᆪ. These are Hangul letter forms that make up the same syllable, not a different word.
