What 짗 means
It is an older spelling of 깃, “feather.”
The spelling appears in volume 6, section 6 of 두시언해, a Korean annotated translation of poems by the Chinese poet Du Fu; its first edition dates to 1481.
Hangul was created in 1443; its explanatory book 훈민정음 appeared in 1446. The alphabet made Korean writing accessible without first mastering Chinese characters, and 짗 belongs to that writing history.
What does 짗 mean when someone sends it?
Treat it as a historical spelling or a character inquiry.
Without surrounding words, you cannot tell whether the sender is quoting older Korean or asking about the character. Ask for context before reading it as a reaction; the modern word for “feather” is written 깃.
Historical: it belongs in older Korean texts or a discussion of Korean spelling, not ordinary contemporary writing.
For the modern word “feather,” write 깃; use 짗 when quoting or discussing its older spelling.
