What 좘 means
It is a syllable block; the surrounding Korean word supplies its meaning. Hangul writes syllables in blocks built from jamo, its letters. This block combines an initial consonant (ᄌ), the vowel (ᅪ), and the final cluster (ᆳ). The Unicode label jwals is not a Korean word; it lists the parts in order.
Hangul’s earliest documentary trail runs through 1443 and 1446: a royal record in 1443 reports the new letters, and the 1446 Hunminjeongeum, a guide to them, explains the system. Hangul was designed to make writing Korean easier than using Chinese characters and to widen access to writing; it later grew from a royal project into Korea’s national script.
