What 쟌 means
Its word or name supplies the meaning.
Hangul, Korea’s writing system, groups letters into blocks: 쟌 ㅈ ㅑ ㄴ. After ㅈ, ㅑ and ㅏ sound alike, so 쟌 sounds like 잔.
King Sejong devised Hangul to write Korean; its creation is first recorded in 1443, and an explanatory guide appeared in 1446. A 2004 language-history article traces 잔디 (“turf”) to the older spelling 쟌.
