Hangul syllable Jyeolh

졇 is a Hangul syllable block with no established standalone meaning as of 2026. If someone sends it alone, ask for context. The Sejong Sillok, a royal chronicle, records Hangul's creation in 1443; the 1446 guide Hunminjeongeum explains its letters and block structure.

What 졇 means

Treat it as a Korean text fragment. Without context, the sender’s intent is unclear; ask before guessing.

Why was Hangul created?

King Sejong devised Hangul to make Korean easier to write and learn. Before it, Korean writing relied on Chinese characters and methods based on them, which fit Korean sounds and grammar poorly.

The book Hunminjeongeum (“Proper Sounds to Instruct the People”) explained how consonants and vowels make syllable blocks. The same name was used for the new writing system.

1

Why does 졇 show as a box on some devices?

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
