What 캒 means
It has no fixed word meaning alone. This Hangul syllable block joins ㅋ (starting consonant), ㅐ (vowel) and ㄲ (final consonant).
Why does Hangul use syllable blocks?
Hangul syllable blocks group letters into one written syllable. Its earliest surviving record appears in the Sejong Annals in 1443; the explanatory guide Hunminjeongeum followed in 1446. Hangul was designed to make Korean easier to read and write than learning Chinese characters.
Before Hangul, Idu, Hyangchal and Gugyeol adapted Chinese characters to write Korean. In late Chosŏn Korea, Hangul served letters, poems, notes and fiction; literary Chinese dominated male public writing. It entered official documents in 1894.
