What 캮 means
On a Korean keyboard, enter ㅋ, then ㅑ, then ㄲ.
A Korean input method editor (IME) combines them in initial-consonant, vowel, final-consonant order. On the standard two-set layout, make final ㄲ with Shiftㄱ. Some Unicode-aware input also accepts the separate conjoining jamo 캮 and can normalize them into 캮.
What does 캮 mean by itself?
By itself, 캮 has no fixed word meaning. It is one Hangul syllable block, built from initial ㅋ, vowel ㅑ, and final ㄲ. The Unicode name “kyagg” is generated from those component names, not translated. Korean words are read from their surrounding syllable blocks. Fonts may shift the parts’ placement and proportions without changing the character.
Hangul was designed to write Korean speech with consonant and vowel letters grouped into syllable blocks. Its creation was recorded in 1443; Hunminjeongeum, a guide explaining the script’s purpose and operation, appeared in 1446. The system gave Korean speakers a direct way to write their language without relying on Classical Chinese.
After major government reforms in Korea in 1894, known as the Gabo Reform, Hangul was commonly called gukmun (국문, “national writing”) or gukseo (국서, “national script”). The name Hangeul (한글) spread more widely in the early 1910s; Choseongul (조선글) is also used in North Korea. These are names for Hangul as a whole. Change final ㄲ and the block represents a different syllable.

1Why does 캮 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
