What 켐 means
The block gives a syllable sound; its word gives its meaning.
Read it as one piece of Korean spelling. A single block does not identify the complete word or name it belongs to, so context is needed to translate it.
Why does Hangul group letters into blocks?
The block places Korean letters together to write one syllable.
Hangul was created in 1443 and explained in 1446 as a writing system meant to make Korean easier to write and learn. Chinese characters then dominated formal writing. Hangul groups Korean consonants and vowels into written syllable blocks.
During the Joseon dynasty, people used Hangul in texts about Buddhist teachings and Confucian ideas, as well as in letters, petitions, household labels, practical books, and literature.
How do I type 켐?
On a standard Korean keyboard, press z, p, then a.
With Korean input active, the input method turns those keys into ㅋ ㅔ ㅁ and arranges them as 켐. An input method editor (IME) does the joining automatically.
Hangul can store a syllable as one block or as an equivalent sequence of its component letters. The forms may look alike, so software should normalize Unicode—convert equivalent spellings to a standard form—before comparing Korean text.
Neutral as a written syllable; the complete Korean word supplies its social tone.
